It does this by organizing conferences and training events, by pursuing specialist activities through dedicated sub-groups and by offering high added value web-based tools.

EPO's 2011 STATISTICS NOW AVAILABLE. 2011 was a record year at the EPO with almost 250 000 patent filings, the highest number ever in its 34-year history. In global terms, the demand for patent protection is on the rise (4% increase in filings in 2011 compared to 2010).

OPEN CALL FOR SPACE TECHNOLOGY RELATED DEMONSTRATOR PROJECTS. The NTTI/Belgian Space Technology Platform is a consortium of four entities appointed by ESA TTPO to implement the space technology transfer programme in Belgium. The consortium has just published an open call inviting organizations from both the space and non-space sectors as well as individuals to submit proposals for carrying out a feasibility study into the possible transfer of a technology from a donor in the space sector to a recipient in a non-space sector.

SERVICE INNOVATION - CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST TO SELECT SIX MODEL DEMONSTRATOR REGIONS. The aim is to assist regions in designing better policies based on the transformative power of service innovation.

2012 MILLENNIUM TECHNOLOGY PRIZE LAUREATES NAMED. Technology Academy Finland has named two leading innovators - Linus Torvalds and Dr Shinya Yamanaka - as laureates of the 2012 Millennium Technology Prize whose prize money exceeds EUR 1 million. The winner of the Grand Prize will be announced at a ceremony in Helsinki on Wednesday 13 June.

2012 U.S. GLOBAL PATENT & TRENDS INDICATOR PUBLISHED. Now in its third year, inovia's U.S. Global Patent & IP Trends Indicator has become an acclaimed resource for identifying the trends having the greatest impact on the foreign filing strategies of U.S. patentees.

THE BUSINESS PLATFORM - Entrepreneurship & management in the early stages of a firm's development. Each year a large number of company start-ups are created throughout Europe. More of these do not develop into medium-sized or large businesses. Dr. Magnus Klofsten, who is director of the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Linköping University in Sweden, describes in his book eight different elements which e new company start-up must develop if it is to succeed in the long run.
